Wynnum Manly and Districts Men’s Shed
Friday 13 February 2026
Wynnum Manly and Districts Men’s Shed (WMDMS) is hosting a free Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Training Day for local shedders, bringing together men from sheds across the bay area and surrounding districts for a practical, supportive learning opportunity.
This full-day workshop will focus on recognising and responding to mental health challenges in the workplace — with a strong emphasis on Men’s Sheds, where connection, camaraderie and looking out for each other are core values.
The training will be delivered by Todd Teynolds, who previously facilitated a well-received mental health workshop at WMDMS. Todd is delivering the program on behalf of Melbourne University and brings extensive experience in mental health education.
Why attend?
Mental health — particularly men’s mental health — is an issue that arises regularly in workplaces and community spaces. When someone is distressed, disruptive, or potentially at risk, it can be challenging to know what to do without making the situation worse.
This workshop will provide participants with practical mental health first aid strategies to help them respond appropriately and confidently. The training will explore real-world scenarios, including:
How to respond when someone in the shed or workplace appears very upset or disruptive
What to do if there is concern about safety or risk of harm
Navigating complex and sensitive conversations, including views on suicide and voluntary assisted dying
Supporting others while also looking after your own wellbeing
Each participating shed is encouraged to send one to three representatives.
