Big Breakfast Brings Shedders Together for Mental Health Week
As part of Queensland Mental Health Week, the Wynnum Manly & Districts Men’s Shed hosted a World Mental Health Day Shedder’s Big BBQ Breakfast on Friday, 10 October 2025.
The event was all about connection - bringing Shedders together to share a BBQ breakie, enjoy live entertainment, and explore a range of health and community displays. From trade and special interest exhibits to stalls promoting wellbeing services, the Big Breakfast created a space for conversation and support.
Attendees had the chance to learn more about men’s health through organisations such as the Cancer Council, Repair Café, Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, and It’s a Bloke Thing, all working to raise awareness and encourage early action on health issues that matter.
Local MP, Kara Cook, joined the morning celebrations, describing it as “a great morning of community, conversation and connection” and encouraging locals to head down and take part. Her visit highlighted the importance of events like this in fostering mental health awareness and strengthening community ties.
Events like this remind us that Men’s Sheds are places where mateship and mental wellbeing
go hand in hand.
The breakfast even caught the attention of local media, with Redland Bayside News covering the day and highlighting a special guest appearance by champion boxer Jeff Horn, who spoke about his role as ambassador for Bullyproof Australia and the importance of tackling bullying and mental health challenges.
