QMSA Forums Foster Discussion and Innovation

The Queensland Men’s Shed Association (QMSA) has wrapped up a series of five Presidents Forums over the past three weeks, covering key regions including Metro South, Metro North, Metro Central, Cairns, and Toowoomba. These forums have been well-attended by both QMSA members and non-members, offering valuable opportunities for sheds to connect, share ideas, and discuss pressing issues.

Hot Topics in the Shed Community

A recurring theme across all forums has been the challenge of filling vacant committee positions, a critical issue for many Men’s Sheds. The forums provided a platform to explore crisis and long-term solutions while helping to ensure strong leadership in the long term.

Training needs were another major point of discussion, with members requesting support on a wide range of topics. Everything from hands-on skills like operating laser cutters and CNC machines to more technical areas such as using AI for grant writing and preparing members for committee roles was highlighted.

Connecting and Collaborating

In addition to the formal discussions, attendees had the chance to visit neighbouring sheds, check out projects, and exchange ideas. This “sticky beak” opportunity allowed participants to see firsthand the diversity of initiatives underway across the state and fostered a spirit of collaboration.

More to Come

With such positive feedback from these forums, QMSA encourages sheds to watch for upcoming events in their area. These gatherings are open to all Men’s Sheds and provide an invaluable space for networking, learning, and innovation.
