Fitzroy River Men’s Shed - “Sauce of Democracy”

Men’s Sheds are often on the lookout for fundraising opportunities. At election time, Fitzroy River Men’s Shed made the most of Aussies' love of a Democracy Sausage sizzle to make some much-needed funds for the Shed. And, in true Men’s Shed fashion, they added a sense of fun to the day …

At the Frenchville polling booth in Rockhampton, voters enjoyed the classic Democracy Sausage—this time with a twist. Our Fitzroy River Men’s Shed team offered a variety of sauce bottles, each creatively colour-coded to match mock "party" choices. As voters selected their preferred sauce, we used the levels at the end of the day to conduct an unofficial "sauce poll."

The most-used bottle turned out to correspond with the actual most-voted-for party at the Frenchville booth (according to public results). This mirrored the accuracy of our 2024 State Election “sauce poll” too! While we take no credit for scientific polling, we did raise smiles and funds for our Shed.-- It was a great day of light-hearted community spirit.
