NSDP Changes Mean More Health & Wellbeing Support
Recent changes to the National Shed Development Programme (NSDP) make it more attractive for Men’s Sheds to invest in the health, wellbeing and safety of their members, while still planning for future tools and equipment. These changes allow Sheds to pursue health programs, training and events with greater confidence, knowing this will not compromise longer-term equipment planning.
What’s Changed?
Under the updated NSDP settings, applying for Categories 1, 2, 4 and 5 no longer affects eligibility for Category 3 (Tools and Equipment).
Category 3 funding remains available every three years, allowing health and wellbeing projects to sit alongside, rather than compete with, future equipment upgrades. For many Sheds, this makes health-focused projects a more practical option than in the past.
Available Funding Categories
Sheds can apply for:
Category 1 Health, Wellbeing & Events: up to $8,000
Category 2 Shed Improvements: up to $8,000
Category 3 Tools and Equipment: up to $5,000
Category 4 Mental Health, Wellbeing & Events: up to $8,000
Category 5 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs): up to $2,250
Priority for Category 3 continues to be given to new Sheds, Sheds that have not previously received NSDP funding, and those impacted by 2025–26 natural disasters.
NSDP funding can support a wide range of practical activities

In Practice: Mt Perry Men’s Shed
In 2025, grant funding supported the Mt Perry Men’s Shed to run a six-week health and wellbeing program focused on helping members become more active and confident with exercise. A qualified Exercise Physiologist provided individual assessments, tailored guidance and weekly group sessions at the local Sport and Recreation facility. For some participants, this was their first experience using a gym. Through the partnership, members were also able to continue using the facility after the program, with some now meeting there weekly before their regular Shed meeting.
